AMSTERDAM

A WELCOMING COUNTRY

Known as the 'Venice of the North', built on ninety islands linked by four hundred stone bridges Travel across the city by tram, the fastest way is by bike. Until about a century ago, Holland had more than 9,000 windmills. Today, about 900 windmills remain.

We visited Amsterdam prior to our Mediterranean Cruise and stayed for 3 days.
Amsterdam is the friendliest of cities. famous for it's Museum's, Canals, The red-light district, liberal attitudes and trendy nightlife. Amsterdam's Chinatown, good atmosphere, good Chinese food too. We strolled through narrow streets, took coffee in a hash cafe and drank beer by the canal.

Lady Of The Night!
One of the entertainment capitals of Europe. bars, lively music, casino's, theatre productions, and eye-opening entertainment. The famous Red Light District covers a large area in the oldest part of the city. It has been servicing locals and visitors for five centuries. There is a certain charm to the area due to the old buildings leaning at odd angles, the shaded canals, narrow alleyways and the red glow from the windows. The hoertjes are completely legal. Holland is the birthplace of the guilds, and there is a guild for prostitutes too. The narrow alley ways of the Red Light district are busy all day long. Along the canals are some of the big sex shows. The Casa Rosso and the Banana Bar are the most famous. Visit the Sex Museum with Displays of history erotica.

CANAL TRIPS

Canal Our boat guide with his 1 metre Moustache Canal Bus
We took a train from the Airport direct to The Central Station (a magnificent building over 700,000 travellers a week) We used the CANAL BUS to move around the city. Glass covered boats that cruise the canals and stop at varied locations. There's no better way to get your bearings than by cruising the canals themselves. Visit Anne Frank House. The war-time hiding place of the Jewish girl and her family, finally caught by the Nazis, made famous by Anne Frank's diaries. Not to be missed.

From central station board the circle tram, which connects all the sights and goes round all day.
