Our first week - Jewels of the Mediterranean Cruise
Our first day at sea started with an early breakfast, as we wanted to check out all the facilities and be prepared for the lifeboat drill. The food on board was excellent. The entertainment was superb and very professional. Everything was extremely well organised with very helpful, friendly, happy staff. Our cabins were spacious with all the mod cons; including an arrangement of flowers and champagne in our cabin. ( A pre birth treat from Paul) We were invited to dine at the captain's table followed by a cabaret show, with cocktails. |

This
is a busy town in a busy part of the Cote d'Azur. There are
long sandy beaches, terrace cafes and restaurants. From the
main road, you can look down across the red tile roofs of
the old town. The narrow cobblestone and bricked streets
slope steeply down towards the sea with vaulted passages
beneath the houses. There's quite a mediaeval feeling here.
We took a short costal train ride to Monte Carlo (a playground
for royalty) to checkout the famous Place "du Casino" next
to the car racing rally tracks. If you crave more glamour
and mystique, head to the Hotel de Paris, practically glowing
with gold-plated splendour. We strolled along the very attractive
bay and managed a couple of beers, before our rush back to
our ship. Monaco was smaller than I'd expected and covers
just 473 acres

Exciting upbeat energy, its sophistication, its elegance and romance. No time to rest here. We bought bus passes for $4 each for the day using the tourist bus system. The city's sights are widely scattered. A world capital of art, architecture and culture. Spain's second largest city in both size and importance. Everywhere you look was a work of art choosing what to see is difficult. Almost every quarter has something of interest. We had time for a short stroll down the Ramblas and saw the Gaudi home and apartments with the intricate roof. Antonio Gaudi's most famous work, The church spires, La Sagrada Familia, A masterpiece. The Zoo was very enjoyable too in most cases with an unrestricted view of the animals. You can hire an electric cart, similar to golf carts and drive your way around. Very well planned. The zoo houses the only albino gorilla known to exist. An exciting, flamboyant and sophisticated city. Click here to visit |

TUNIS- TUNISIA - a small north African country
move over picture for photo info At the heart of the Mediterranean basin. Tunisia is a crossroads between East and West. Compared with most mega-cities elsewhere in the world, Tunis comes across as little more than a large country town. The city centre is compact and easy to get around. Visit Souq el-Attarine - the Perfume Makers' Souq - where the shops are full of aromatic oils and spices. follow the twists and turns of the fascinating old inner city. We hired a taxi for a few hours to visit ancient ruins of Carthage. We also had time to explore the pretty market port of Sidi Bou Said. An enchanting city. |

PORT NAPLES- ITALY - Neapolitan Riviera - Pompeii
It's where pasta was invented and where the first pizza was tossed. Visit the ashen ruins of Pompeii, where ancient Romans went to play, only to be lost under Vesuvius. We took the train to pompei, a walk down Pompeii's dusty streets is like walking back in time, into the days of the ancient Romans. Try the Bay of Naples, from a terrace on Capri, or Sorrento's busy little harbour, from a waterside cafe. Nearly missed the boat, 5minutes later and the boat would have left without us. |

move over picture for photo info Journey to the top of Monte Toro, the highest mountain on the island for the most spectacular view. The island is easily explored. The town is a maze of narrow streets and virtually non-existent pavements built around one of the world's largest natural harbours. Take a glass bottom boat ride. They leave hourly and cost around 1500 Ptas. Will be adding more to this page soon. |
